Master Chief Goes HollywoodDuring X05 it was revealed that Peter Jackson of Lord of The Rings fame has joined the team that will be bringing Master Chief to the big screen. The movie is set to hit the screens in 2007 in conjunction with a rumored Halo 3 launch. Can we expect great things from Mr. Jackson in this movie just like he did with the Lord of The Rings? We can only hope. He had this to say:

“As a gaming fan, I’m excited to bring HALO’s premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today’s technology can provide,” said Jackson. “Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we’re delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. I’m a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen.”

Trojan Bricks PSP Nintendo DSThis is never good - be on the lookout for trojans that, once installed on your portable gaming device, will render it completely and utterly useless. On the PSP front, it appears to be a hack to allow one to play homebrew games on the unit, but take note:

Today Symantec Security Response experts identified the first Trojan that targets Sony Playstation Portable systems, Trojan.PSPBrick, as a Category 1 threat (Category 5 being the worst). As of today, there are no confirmed infections.

Sad - but Nintendo DS owners must also beware:

Try to avoid anything by the likes of r0mloader (supposedly named that way to combat piracy) or taihen (which was said to be a hentai-filled ROM). This little Trojan homebrew will reportedly wreck your DS (unless you preemptively ran FlashMe) and “affect your GBAMP firmware and/or your SuperCard Firmware,” too.

So the question remains - who is doing this? Hackers with too much time on their hands? Or are representatives at Nintendo and Sony putting these out in the wild to hinder the homebrew community?

Xbox 360 Launch Okay, so Microsoft has been continually saying that we should expect about 20 games to be available on November 22 for Xbox 360 launch. At X05, we got a glimpse at what we could expect to see on store shelves. At X05Microsoft confirmed eight launch titles, five of which are from Electronic Arts: Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, FIFA 06, and Need for Speed Most Wanted. Activision went on to announce four of their own Xbox 360 launch titles: Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland, and GUN (a brand new Western-themed action game). Furthermore, Take-Two announced that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, NBA 2K6, NHL 2K6, Top Spin 2, and Amped 3 available at launch. Throw Dead or Alive 4 into this lineup and it doesn’t look too shabby at all.

SanDisk EA Game SaveIt looks like EA and SanDisk are getting into the business of selling PSP game saves and add-ons as a value-add with Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, and they are starting this venture with Madden 2006. Contained in a feature called Game Save, the bonus content will be available on SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo Game cards that are distributed in North America. There is no additional cost for the Game Saves on SanDisk cards, which is a nice plus. The companies have gone out of their way to make sure that buyers know that, despite the Game Save, there is still plenty of room left over for videos, music, images, and the like. With the Game Save content on SanDisk cards, players can unlock features that would normally take much time and high scoring to initiate. The bonus material grants users 100 points toward a new mode called “Assistant Coach Franchise,” a game goal system that is exclusive to the PSP version of Madden NFL 06.

Gamestop 360 Omega PlasmaGamestop continues to the the leader in ridiculously exorbitant Xbox 360 bundles, creating something even more grandiose than the original Omega Bundle (which we are giving away over on Gear Live.) Behold, the Omega With Dell Plasma Bundle. Basically, it’s everything that the regular Omega Bundle comes with - including 20 freaking games - plus a 42-inch Dell Plasma screen. The cost of entry? $4,499.68. Go ahead and take that all in. I don’t think that bundle will be selling out any time soon.

We must make this clear right off the bat - we are stunned, amazed, and proud that the term “Nintendo Revolution” was one of the top 15 gaining queries on Google for the week ending September 19, 2005. In fact, more people searched for Nintendo Revolution than they did for Hurricane Rita, Harry Potter, Survivor Guatemala, PS3, and Xbox 360. In case you haven’t noticed, with their announcement of the Revolution controller, Nintendo just made themselves the talk of the gaming town. Here are the top 5 queries, according to Google:

1. kenny chesney

Brighter GBA:SP Micro Comparison

See, now this just rocks. Being that Nintendo has been using backlit screens since the DS launched, even including one in the Game Boy Micro, they finally decided to do away with the front lit TFTs in the GBA:SP. Although the company hasn’t hyped it - probably because they don’t want to stifle Micro sales - the GBA:SP now ships with a much improved backlit screen that to me looks even better than the screen on the Micro. Just take a look at the comparison picture above from IGN. The new screen certainly looks worlds better than the older one - and you can actually see what’s going on without squinting your eyes out, unlike the Micro. The best part of all this is that the GBA:SP still sells for the same price.
